I find that there’s no better way than Mixed Media art to capture the emotion, thoughts, and stories of the subjects I aim to encapsulate. One of the styles of art I create is 3D sculptural assemblages (box sculptures) that connect the viewer to the essence of the scene in order to tell stories, evoke feelings and experience unexpected and surprising perspectives through a rich palette of colours, light and found objects and the repurposing of other materials.

Box Art
Portraits Of the Mind/ House Boxes
The main focus of my work is Box Sculpture Art, I call these “Portraits of the Mind” or “House Boxes”.
I make boxes and objects from household and other sourced recycled materials and interpret them into autobiographical meanings. I arrange the objects into miniature interiors and 3D narratives informing the viewer of the story within. They are like cupboards of the mind and are thus called “Portraits of The Mind”, or “House Boxes”, as I believe that you can glean much of a person’s mind through the homes and interiors they inhabit/use and thus is what is shelved in the storage of their minds.

Books
Multiple Positional Display Books:
The next category of art I focus on are the Artist Books, bookbinding and book folding art. Some of the books I have created are multi-positional display books that have wooden covers where I hinge together one or more books by one of the wood covers on each book, thus creating the possibility to display them in many different positions. These were initially based on early or ancient Greek books that came into existence after the scroll format of reading and writing recordings.
Plastic Sculpture
A Project Created as A Direct Response to Climate Issues
The Plastic Botanical Sculpture work I create is a climate change project where I create floral plastic sculptures using discarded plastic bottles and recycled books where I use a variety of folding techniques. These pieces not only combine a variety of materials as mentioned but also include textile techniques.
My love of animals and grave concern for their welfare and the issues surrounding their existence led me to create these pieces. The flowers I create become a 3D statement towards the concern around landfills and depositing plastics in the ocean and I wanted to show that plastics can have positive uses as opposed to harming nature.
